عوليس أو يوليسيس هي رواية للكاتب الأيرلندي جيمس جويس، نشرت للمرة الأولى على حلقات في جريدة "ذا ليتل ريفيو" الأمريكية بين شهري مارس 1918 وديسمبر 1920، ثم نشرته سيلفيا بيتش في باريس في كتاب صدر في 2 فبراير 1922. تعد من أبرز الأعمال في الأدب الحداثي حتى أنها اعتبرت "نموذجاً وإجمالاً للحركة بأكملها".
تسجل الرواية خط سير ليوبولد بلوم داخل مدينة دبلن خلال يوم عادي هو 16 يونيو 1904، ويشير العنوان إلى أوديسيوس، وهو بطل أوديسة هوميروس، ويفتح المجال لعدة موازنات بين شخصيات وأحداث ملحمة هوميروس وبين شخصيات وأحداث رواية جويس. ويحتفل معجبو جويس في مختلف دول العالم بما يسمى "يوم بلوم" في 16 يونيو من كل عام.
يبلغ طول رواية "عوليس" حوالي 265 ألف كلمة، ويستخدم جويس فيها قاموساً يصل إلى 30 ألف مفردة، وتنقسم إلى 18 حلقة. ومنذ نشرت الرواية دار حولها الكثير من الجدل والانتقادات، من بينها حظر الرواية لفترة لاتهامها بالإباحية، وما عرف بحروب جويس التي دارت حول الرواية. ومما يجعل الرواية ذات قيمة عالية في تاريخ الأدب الحداثي استخدامها تقنية تيار الوعي، وبنيتها المحكمة، وثراؤها في تجسيد الشخصيات وحس الفكاهة. وقد تصدرت الرواية سنة 1998 قائمة أفضل 100 رواية باللغة الإنجليزية في القرن العشرين.

There are two and a half (almost three reasons) why this book is the Mount Everest of English literature. 1. If you are not Irish and/or Catholic you will not know half the references; 2. If you are not educated and well read, you will not know the other half; 3. Joyce experimented hard and heavy! #3 also makes it absolutely worth reading!

The book is vulgar and almost impossible to follow, at least in audio form. It jumps around, and the narrator is constantly using metaphors involving bodily waste, bodily fluids, and other unpleasant imagery. What anyone could see in this book mystifies me. I also don't understand how ReadGeek recommended it to me, based on other books I've rated. I'm very disillusioned with the ReadGeek recommender algorithm. As a software engineer, I understand how such algorithms are supposed to work, and I consider this a blunder of the first water.
