It won the Governor General's Award for English Fiction and the CBA Libris Fiction Award, and was a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. In 2006, it was championed by singer-songwriter John K. Samson during CBC's Canada Reads and won the competition, the first novel by a woman to be chosen for this program of national reading.

I loved this book. I read this for an English class and absolutely fell in love with it. I would highly recommend it.
