Romaanin tapahtumat sijoittuvat Kansasiin. Romaanin päähenkilö on Libby Day, jonka äiti ja kaksi siskoa surmattiin hänen ollessaan 7-vuotias. Pakoon päässeen Libbyn todistuksen ansiosta hänen veljensä Ben tuomittiin surmista. 25 vuoden jälkeen murhista kiinnostunut salaseura ottaa yhteyttä Libbyyn ja lupaa rahaa, jos Libby auttaa heitä tutkimaan perheenjäsentensä surmaa.

This book is great, really well written. You just can't get enough of it. It just makes you want to know more and more of the history. I actually got all of Gillian Flynn's books and this one is stil number 1 for me.

I really loved this book and it led me to read the rest of Gillian Flynn's novels. Its darker than I thought it would be, but I loved it even more for that, couldn't put it down! I thought the characters were really well crafted, Libby Day being as a "real" product of her experience instead of a glossed over archetype of what a victim should be. Ending was great, loved it all around.
