Maybe I haven't experienced enough of the world for this book to be presenting any relevant or tantalizing facets of human life to me. Maybe the crime and ensuing guilt and sickness don't seem as powerful in the face of more and more modern media with gratuitous violence and melodramatic dialogue. Dostoevsky is still one of my favorites, but this was a chore to finish.
