This book had an affectionate energy which amazed me. Neither of the principal character's stories flagged at any point in the book, and their transformations are genuine and organic. The ending was about the best ending such a book could be given. Without giving anything away, Chabon revels in participating in the rich tradition of leaving readers uncertain of where and when the story ends, and executes it with the same grace present in the first four acts.
