Jack and Jill: A Village Story by Louisa May Alcott, is a children's book originally published in 1880. It takes place in a small New England town after the Civil War. The story of two good friends named Jack and Janey, Jack and Jill tells of the aftermath of a serious sledding accident.

『若草物語』、は、1868年にルイーザ・メイ・オルコットによって書かれた自伝的小説である。19世紀後半のアメリカを舞台に、ピューリタンであるマーチ家の四人姉妹を描いた物語である。続篇として『続 若草物語』、『第三若草物語』、『第四若草物語』があり、姉妹の成人・結婚やその後の生活が描かれている。 原題となっている「リトル・ウィメン」とは著者の父親が実際に娘たちを呼称するのに用いた言葉で、単なる幼い少女ではなく一人の立派な女性であるという意味合いで用いられていた。第1作と続編においては、聖書や『天路歴程』が姉妹たちの導きの書であり、これに関する記述が多々見られる。一家の行うフィランソロピーもそれらの影響を受けているものと考えられる。 …
