I remember reading this book over and over as a kid. Imagine my delight when I was cleaning out a box of random 'crap' my mom had put away when I moved out (sorry, mom, for how long you've been my free storage solution...) and pulled it out again. I'd completely forgotten every story except for vague memories of "Do You Believe In Ghosts?" Ghosts & More Ghosts is a collection of (from an adult point of view) somewhat tame ghost stories. But while tame, they are also unique enough to make themselves remembered. As soon as I opened the book, despite probably two decades worth of time since I last opened it, every title brought with it a flood of memories of how the story went and how much I liked it. There are really not many stories in here I didn't enjoy. I guess if I had to say "least favorites" I'd mention the one above as well as "Footsteps Invisible." They weren't terrible but they never really piqued my imagination the way the other stories did. The rest... for favorites I'd say The Stamps of El Dorado, The Wonderful Day, and Mr. Dexter's Dragon. The rest fall in-between. But they're all entertaining to read again. In order, the stories are: Foosteps Invisible - it starts out with a dark and stormy night, and goes on from there! Mr. Milton's Gift - a man steps into a gift shop and steps out 'gifted'. The ending is quite a cute little bit of humor. The Rose-Crystal Bell - the story of a bell that may or may not have the power to bring the dead back to life. I love that he left this one open to interpretation as to whether it really does or not. The Stamps of El Dorado - an unusual set of stamps from an unusual country. And a great story! Made me want to take up stamp collecting as a kid, you know, just in case I could find some for myself! The Wonderful Day - a small town experiences the very mixed results of a boy's wish that everything he has overheard in a mild gossiping discussion might come true for just one day. Don't Be A Goose - a man with little hope in the present hopes to make his mark in the past. Obstinate Uncle Otis - a man's obstinacy goes from a mildly amusing trait to those who know him to a serious problem for the rest of the planet. Do You Believe In Ghosts? - a radio host delivers his best show yet, and discovers a serious downside to being *too* good at your job. Mr. Dexter's Dragon - a mysterious book falls into the hands of a collector. Or perhaps it would be better to explain it as a collector falling into the hands of a mysterious book. A quick and mild story with most of the action happening off-stage, but I quite like that - it leaves all the action to one's (very active) imagination. Hank Garvey's Daytime Ghost - an amusing "is it or isn't it?" ghost story. The story of a haunted man, half from the people who watch him and laugh, half from the haunted man who doesn't care if other people think he's odd, because he's happy the way he is.
