While the events of September 11, 2001, brought religion into the media spotlight, religious diversity has been on the rise in business organizations for some time. An effort to understand how religion affects workplace trends, this survey of HR professionals (conducted prior to September 11) explores such issues as religious representation, policies, accommodations, treatment, conflicts, bias, and discrimination. Among the study's many findings are that, of the 17 industry categories surveyed, more respondents from the high-tech and transportation sectors reported an increase in the number of religions represented in their workforce; and that the most commonly requested religious accommodations are decorating office space for religious holidays and flexible scheduling for religious observances.
