Some Folk Think the South Pole's Hot: The Three Tenors Play the Antarctic

by Elke Heidenreich

Blurb

Sprightly rhymed couplets tell this lengthy surreal tale of the nattily dressed penguins who joyfully welcome the Opera Ship from Old Vienna to the South Pole. And who should be onboard but the legendary Three Tenors! The excited, already properly attired audience includes little Lotti, a Spice Girls fan, dragged by her uncle to the performance, but soon impressed by a moving performance of La Traviata, with Pavarotti as an unforgettable Violetta. When the ship sails away, all the penguins hope for its return. Humor and whimsy fill the pages up to the final plea to buy the book because "Quint and I need the royalties." The masterful translation is both clever and rich in imagery. Buchholz spices up most of the pages with incredible surreal pictures large and small, from Pavarotti in drag to a double page of the penguins arriving with tickets in hand. The tongue-in-cheek imagery deserves a standing ovation.
