The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague In History is a book by John M. Barry. It examines the 1918 flu pandemic, the worst pandemic in history. Barry not only focuses only on what was occurring in the United States at the time, but attempts to place it both against the background of American history and within the context of the history of medicine.

It is quite fascinating to have read this book, written I think in 2006, in 2020. In the Afterward, he writes that virologists say we are overdue for another worldwide pandemic. He then goes on to describe very soberly what it will probably be like. And he told the entire story of every single thing that happened this year. I got to that part in November 2020, and I thought, "So that's how Steve Bannon knew in January what was going to happen." Bannon is the one who told me about this book and the reason I read it.
