Beyond Sanctuary, by Janet Morris, is the first authorized "Thieves World (R) novel, as well as the first in her series of three "Beyond" books and the first novel in "The Sacred Band" literary series. In Beyond Sanctuary, Tempus takes his Sacred Band of Stepsons out of Sanctuary(R), the central locale in the Thieves' World shared fictional universe, into a world of her own devising. The Sacred Band of Stepsons, an ancient cavalry unit comprised primarily of male/male pairs, battles sorcery and gods on Wizardwall and "beyond." Janet Morris completely revised and expanded Beyond Sanctuary in 2012, reissuing the "Author's Cut" version first as an e-book and then as trade paperback version of this iconic novel.
